Keep reading to learn more about the importance of security at our facilities when choosing the right storage facility in Cincinnati for you.
Security Features You’ll Find at Our Self-Storage in Cincinnati
Circle Storage has these main security features throughout our eight locations based on what’s available at our locations:
Fenced-In Outdoor Areas
Any locations with outdoor parking spaces or drive-up storage units have areas that are completely surrounded by secure chain-link or steel fencing. The only way in or out of these areas is through the gates.
Limited Access for Gates and Doors With Codes
Only people with authorized codes can open gates or doors at our secure facilities. Everyone has a unique access code, and access hours are limited to certain times, generally between 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. or 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., depending on the location.
Every time someone uses an access code to enter and exit the secured area, the computer system logs it. This data allows us to know when and who is attempting to access our locations.
Video Surveillance
We have high-quality recording cameras that cover key areas of our locations, including the entrances and exits and certain interior corridors of climate-controlled storage facilities. The cameras record motion 24 hours per day.
Plenty of Lighting at Night
It can get dark around 5 p.m. during the winter months. All of our facilities are well-lit, making it easy for you to navigate indoor and outdoor/drive-up storage units. We recommend bringing a ashlight or electric lantern or parking in a way that shines your vehicle headlights into a storage unit for looking into your storage unit at night. Climate-controlled storage units already have good lighting on the inside.
Units Individually Locked
Individual storage units must be locked at all times when no one is accessing them. There are several types of locks that can go on a storage unit to secure it. But not all locks are created equal.
Protecting Your Belongings in Self-Storage
You want peace of mind with self-storage in Cincinnati, including having a secure place to store your items. Invest in a high-quality padlock, preferably a disc lock, to keep your items under lock and key. Some units require a cylinder lock, which can be purchased for a reasonable price at our locations.
When packing, use sturdy boxes and wrap fragile items individually to limit damage during transit and while in storage. Elevate items off the oor using pallets or shelves to protect them from moisture, especially in outdoor or drive-up storage.
Take inventory of your belongings before storing them, which includes taking photos for documentation purposes. This will help you if you ever decide to le an insurance claim with whichever insurance company you choose to cover your belongings while in storage.
Opt for climate-controlled storage units to safeguard sensitive items, like electronics, furniture, and paper items, from extreme temperatures and humidity. Regularly inspect your storage unit, at least once a month or once a season, to make sure everything is as you left it. Consider taking photos of your storage unit every time you check it, upon opening and closing it, to make sure everything looks intact from the last time you were there.
Putting the Right Lock on Your Storage Unit
Having the right lock on your storage unit is vital to protecting your items. Here are the main types of locks that work well for self-storage in Cincinnati:
Disc locks represent a popular choice for self-storage units due to their high level of security. The disc design makes them more difcult to cut with bolt cutters. They are also relatively easy to use, needing just a key to unlock, making them a convenient option for many people.
Padlocks may not offer the same level of security as disc locks, but they can still be effective when used with a high-quality, hardened steel shackle. Look for padlocks with a boron-carbide shackle, which is signicantly harder than standard steel.
Combination locks eliminate the need for keys, making them convenient for those who frequently access their storage unit. Choose a strong, reliable combination lock, and change the combination regularly to prevent unauthorized access.
Choosing a Secure Self-Storage Facility
At Circle Storage, we pride ourselves on having the right security features in place to keep your belongings safe. Look for these items when you want the right security for self-storage in Cincinnati:
Search for facilities with robust security systems, including recording cameras strategically placed throughout the property, both indoors and outdoors. Gated access with keypad entry further enhances security by limiting entry to authorized personnel. On-site managers can provide an additional layer of protection during regular business hours by offering a way to respond to any issues promptly.
Consider the facility's overall condition and maintenance. Well-lit premises, both inside and outside, make it easier to monitor the surroundings. Clean and well-maintained units indicate a facility that takes pride in its property and the care of its customers' belongings.
Research the facility's reputation and customer reviews. Positive feedback from previous customers can provide valuable insights into the facility's reliability.
Visit the facility in person to get a rsthand look at the security measures and overall atmosphere. Pay attention to the cleanliness, lighting, and accessibility of the units.
